Brown Bag-Geoff Coltrane and Stephanie Dean
Please join us for the next Brown Bag Seminar to be held on October 21, 2009 at The Friday Institute on NC State Centennial Campus at 9:00 a.m. It will be in the Collaborative Commons and refreshments will be available at 8:30 a.m. Our guests will be Geoff Coltrane and Stephanie Dean of The James B. Hunt, Jr. Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy. The topic will be Working at the Intersection of Policy and Politics.
The James B. Hunt, Jr. Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy strives to inspire elected officials and key policymakers to make informed decisions that foster quality education for all students. The Hunt Institute brings policymakers together with thought partners and resources to facilitate critical dialogue and mobilize action on issues in public education. Geoff Coltrane and Stephanie Dean will describe the Hunt Institute's work.
As Director of Program and Policy at the Hunt Institute, Geoff Coltrane manages the Institute's program development for education policymakers, including the Governors Education Symposium and the annual NC Legislators Retreat. Previously, Mr. Coltrane managed research efforts on school performance as the research and communications director at the North Carolina New Schools Project, and taught kindergarten and first grade at Forest View Elementary in Durham, N.C. Mr. Coltrane earned his undergraduate degree in elementary education and history from UNC-Chapel Hill and his master's degree in public policy from Duke University.
Stephanie Dean is the Director of Research and Evaluation at the Hunt Institute. She manages the Hunt Institute's work with external partners to generate new research of interest and is the principal author of Blueprint, a policy primer that synthesizes research findings for state leaders. Ms. Dean previously worked with nonprofits as a grant manager for United Way in both Oregon and California and was a fourth grade teacher in the Mississippi Delta. She received her B.A. from Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon and her masters in public policy from Duke University.
