Peter Hans became the seventh president of the University of North Carolina in 2020. He was elected to the State Board of Community Colleges (1997-2003) and UNC Board of Governors (2003-2015). Previously, Hans served as the ninth president of the North Carolina Community College System, as a senior policy advisor to three members of the United States Senate, and as an advisor on public affairs at a major law firm. He earned a B.A. degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MLA in extension studies from Harvard University.
