AI for Families

Resources to support clear conversations with families about their students and Artificial Intelligence.

As AI continues to shape conversations across all ages, occupations, and settings, schools and districts have an important role in helping families understand what AI is, how students may encounter it, and how schools are approaching its use. These resources are designed to support family engagement, not replace local communication.

The strategies and activities are intended to help educators at the school and district level engage families, build shared understanding, and support safe and responsible technology use. Meaningful family engagement helps strengthen trust, encourages productive conversations, and creates opportunities for schools and families to work together as students navigate AI and other digital tools.

These resources were developed with support from the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) through a collaboration with the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and the Kentucky Department of Education, New Mexico Public Education Department, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, and Wyoming Department of Education. The materials reflect shared priorities across the four states while allowing schools and districts to adapt them for their local communities.
