College of Education Faculty Contribute to New Handbook of Research on Science Teacher Education

A new book co-edited by Gail Jones, an Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor in the NC State College of Education, is providing insights into science teacher education through a thorough review of research related to science teacher preparation, induction and career-long professional learning. The book’s 35 chapters are divided into six sections, two of which were edited by Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor Sarah Carrier and Professor Soonhye Park.

Hollylynne S. Lee, Distinguished Professor of Mathematics and Statistics Education at NC State’s College of Education, has been named the 2022 recipient of Baylor University’s Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching. The biennial award, which comes with a $250,000 prize, honors professors with exceptional teaching skills who have a record of having a positive, inspiring and long-lasting impact on students.

Shaun Kellogg, the Friday Institute’s senior director of Program Evaluation and Education Research, will begin serving as the Friday Institute’s interim executive director June 1. To assist in the interim duties, NC State College of Education Distinguished Professor of Mathematics and Statistics Education and Friday Institute Senior Faculty Fellow Hollylynne Lee will serve as interim associate dean, Friday Institute, College of Education.

Symposium Organized by Assistant Professor Crystal Chen Lee Encourages ‘Teaching and Telling Asian American Stories’ in the Classroom

Asian Americans are the fastest growing racial group in the United States. Despite this population growth, Asian American stories are often absent from school curricula and Asian American histories rarely appear in state standards for K-12 education. Assistant Professor Crystal Chen Lee decided to organize the “Teaching and Telling Asian American Stories Virtual Symposium” to share these often invisible stories of Asian Americans.
