Wake County Public School System: Making Computer Science (CS) STICK: Systemic Change for Teachers

The Friday Institute, in partnership with the Wake County Public School System, is developing a sustainable community of elementary teachers to support ongoing integration of computer science (CS) concepts into core content areas. By implementing a scalable professional development program and co-creating locally relevant curricular materials with teachers, the project team aims to increase access to computing education in elementary schools, ensuring that every student in North Carolina has the opportunity to experience CS regardless of historical stereotypes and institutional barriers.

With the help of a team from the NC State College of Education and the Friday Institute, students at Vance County Schools have had the opportunity to conduct scientific investigations in ways that were never possible before.

The partnership that Centennial Campus Magnet Middle has with the NC State College of Education and the Friday Institute is truly unique. Our location on campus makes it so easy to work collaboratively, plus we have the opportunity to participate in and help develop innovative education practices, from teacher training to classroom implementation. Together, we are building a community that improves and creates quality education for all learners.
