Cozy Comfort Food Lightens Up the Winter of 2015 by Mei An

Although the final projects are coming like zombies, we still need to try to keep ourselves healthy and happy. Eating is very important, as food not only provides essential nutrition to one’s body but also improves one’s mood. Since we set foot in the USA, we have tried some typical American cuisine and it is fun to continue sampling more. Everything has been quite tasteful. It is interesting that dishes differing in appearances and tastes were prepared with the same original ingredients! Each type of American dish just reminds me of the similar Chinese food we would have back in my home country. Below are the tasty American dishes followed by their Chinese counterparts.

Fried Chicken

Bojangles Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits

We haven’t tried Bojangles yet. My friend told me that it was the best fried chicken in North Carolina, and the biscuits are like Chinese fried “steamed-bread.” But don’t eat too much; it is fried.

Chinese Fried Chicken

La ZiJi Ding (Cubed Spicy Chicken)

La ZiJi Ding is one typical dish of Si Chuan cuisine. Whenever you go there, try it.

Beef Soup

Beef soup is a type of American Bean soup. We tried some bean soup in Dr. Candy Beal’s class when we were learning Bean’s Theory. Such warm and delicious food reminds me of the food a mother cooks for her child. This is one of the best soups I have eaten.

Chinese Beef Soup

Chinese Beef Soup makes the best taste in the world when tomatoes “marry” beef. .

Lasagna

“Dr. Spires’ Lasagna”

We enjoyed our first lasagna savoring experience in Dr. Spires’ home. When pasta meets vegetables, it is a perfect match. How about a pomegranate cocktail to go with it? I would say life is so beautiful, isn’t it?

Dr. Spire’s lasagna reminds me of Beijing’s Qian Cengbing (A thousand layers of pancakes).

Wraps

“Burrito”

A burrito is a type of Mexican and Tex-Mex food, consisting of a wheat flour tortilla wrapped or folded into a cylindrical shape to completely enclose the filling (from Wikipedia).

Jian Bing GuoZi

This is one of best foods in Beijing Royal School’s cafeteria! The wrap is made of flour and egg which is scrambled on a large circular grill. The inside filling includes chili sauce, Chinese crullers, lettuce, green onion, and cilantro.

Winter is approaching with cold winds rustling the leaves, and so are the due dates of our final projects! Let’s unwind after a busy day with some cozy and healthy food, whether it’s classic comfort food, a sophisticated dinner, or something more adventurous that will satisfy your cravings!
