Fall 2022 Online Professional Learning Courses Now Open

Free high-quality online professional learning courses for educators are now open for the fall 2022 session. The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation is opening four courses that cover a variety of topics including social and emotional learning, literacy, learning differences and coaching. Six previously open courses are still available on demand. Educators can construct their own pathways through these personalized experiences and earn micro-credentials for their learning. All courses are self-directed, peer-supported, project-based and allow for blended learning opportunities.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) for Educators 
Build your own foundational understanding of social and emotional learning (SEL) with this course on how SEL skills are essential to student learning. Participants will also see examples of how others are teaching these skills, learn strategies to apply to their classroom and share ideas with colleagues in their school, community and around the globe.

Foundational Coaching Practice for the Digital Age (formerly Coaching Digital Learning)
Coaching educators to create digital learning environments is a challenging, important and highly collaborative role. Individuals who play this role are instrumental in cultivating a digital, personalized blended learning culture within their school, district and/or state. This course allows participants to learn along with colleagues from other schools and districts to enhance digital learning content knowledge and further develop coaching strategies.

Learning Differences
Deepen your understanding of learning differences and their impact on student learning in this course. Participants will learn how to expand their knowledge related to key constructs of learning differences, use actionable strategies to impact the learning experience of their students, cultivate a growth mindset related to learning differences and use technology tools to support student learning differences at a distance.

Teaching K-8 Multilingual Learners Literacy & Academic Content
This course will help participants more effectively prepare emergent multilingual students in elementary and middle grades with the skills they need to be successful in school. Teaching K-8 Multilingual Learners Literacy & Academic Content amplifies educators’ pedagogical knowledge and instructional practice with multilingual learners to teach academic vocabulary, integrate oral and written English language into content areas, develop students’ written language skills and provide small-group interventions for literacy and language development. The course draws on the recommendations of the IES Teaching Academic Content and Literacy to English Learners in Elementary and Middle School Practice Guide.
