Purpose

The Developing Secondary Students Data Acumen project (DRL 2436211), funded by the National Science Foundation, is a three-year project (2025-2028) focusing on developing high school students’ data acumen, data-informed decision-
making, and the use of data tools. This project brings together teachers, data scientists, researchers, and data science education experts to:

• develop real-world datasets for student learning;
• co-design curriculum materials centered on engaging students with data and the Data Life Cycle; and,
• engage students, including those in rural communities, through problem-based data science experiences at
  summer camps.

Summer Camps

In the Summer of 2027, we will host one data science camp at the Friday Institute while in the summer of 2028, we will host three data science camps for students in grades 9–12 at three locations across NC. We are calling these camps DASH (Data Acumen for Students in High School) camp.
