Laying the Foundation for Future Success: Free CS Literacy Training for NC Educators

In 2023, North Carolina made a significant step by mandating that all students complete a high school computer science credit for graduation. We know that by high school, many students have already formed perceptions about CS, potentially limiting the mandate’s impact and turning it into an item on a checklist. To truly prepare our students for the demands of 21st-century careers, we must introduce them to computer science concepts early and cultivate their interest.
The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, a part of the NC State College of Education, in partnership with Code.org, is committed to addressing this need by offering free, single-day, in-person CS literacy and integration training to schools and districts across the state. This training is designed for all educators, with a particular focus on empowering K-5 teachers, to confidently integrate CS exposure into their classrooms. By providing our youngest learners with foundational CS experiences, we can ignite their curiosity and ensure they are well-prepared for the future.
- Learn in a safe and fun environment
- No prior CS experience necessary for CS Principles and CS Discoveries training
- Breakfast, lunch and lodging provided* (lodging dependent on distance)
- Help your students take the lead in their education
These trainings are intensive, highly supportive programs designed to prepare educators who have not necessarily taught or studied computer science previously. Educators across the state can now register to attend trainings at the site nearest them to complete the computer science professional development that best suits their instructional needs.
