Industry Partners

Project DeSIRE connects students to STEM careers in advanced manufacturing through our industry partnerships. Our industry partners serve a number of roles on the project including collaborating on curriculum development for the engineering design course, acting as invited guest speakers in the classroom and hosting future site tours of their manufacturing facilities. Each of our industry partners have manufacturing facilities in Edgecombe and Nash counties. One of the goals of Project DeSIRE is to show students the range of STEM career options available in their local community and teach them the technical and essential skills necessary to be successful in the advanced manufacturing industry.

STEM Knowledge Transfer Model is a circular flow chart that features NSF ITEST goals, NC State (COE and CED), Industry Partners, Rural K-12 Schools (Educators), Middle School Students, Research and Evaluation. Our Partners

Pfizer

Pfizer’s Rocky Mount, North Carolina, site is one of the largest sterile injectable facilities in the world, with more than 1.4 million square feet of manufacturing space on 250 acres in Eastern North Carolina. Nearly 25% of all sterile injectables used in U.S. hospitals are produced at the site.

At this facility, a wide range of products are produced, including anesthesia, analgesia, therapeutics, anti-infectives and neuromuscular blockers. These products are available in small volume presentations, such as ampules, vials and syringes, and large volume presentations, such as IV bags and semi-rigid bottles.

More than 400 million units leaving the Rocky Mount site annually help treat patients around the world.
