GEES: Graphic Enhanced Elementary Science
The goal of this project was to create and assess teacher professional development materials that support effective use of student-generated graphics for science learning in grades 2-5. The primary context of use is with science notebooks and kit-based experiments in the classroom. The materials will help teachers support the creation and use of graphics by students during inquiry activities and as a formative assessment tool.
Graphic Enhanced Elementary Science (GEES) was funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation and directed by the team of Drs. Eric Wiebe (Science Education), James Minogue (Elementary Science Education), and Mike Carter (Graduate School/Science Writing). This work built on previous work by the team on multimodal communication in science investigations with older students.
