Learning Analytics & Data Science

Leading Educational Advancement through Democratizing Data Science

The Learning Analytics & Data Science (LEADS) in Education team aims to empower educators, administrators and policy-makers through collaborative, data-intensive improvement research. Leveraging methods drawn from learning analytics and data science, we work with educators and policy makers to facilitate evidence-based decision making and drive effective and innovative educational change. We strive to shape a future where educators not only have the capacity to use data for significantly improving teaching and learning outcomes, but where education researchers and practitioners work closely together to drive continuous improvement and produce equitable impacts for all learners.

Featured Project: The LASER Institute

Funded by the National Science Foundation (ECR: BCSER), The Learning Analytics in STEM Education Research (LASER) Institute aims to increase the capacity of early and mid-career scholars to leverage new data sources and apply computational methods (e.g., network analysis, text mining and machine learning) to support their existing research and develop new lines of inquiry.

For me, it kind of changed my identity. I felt kind of before, ‘I don’t do learning analytics,’ and I couldn’t participate in these conversations and think that way. It’s helped me identify more as a scholar in that area, which is the area I wanted to go in.
